Every year, we witness processes fuelled by imagination and personal exploration, resulting in innovative films that take us beyond the screen and into the intimate worlds imagined by these emerging creatives.

Using dance as a vessel for queer self-discovery, this workshop focuses on waacking foundations and improvisational movement techniques that informed the creation process of Juan’s commissioned film “The Meeting Place”. FORMations x Barangay Project: Movement and Filmmaking Jam

This year, our annual FORMations Jam is back in-person with the help of Barangay Project! Barangay’s Creative Director Sophia ‘Sosa’ Gamboa will lead us through a jam-packed 4 hour movement and filmmaking jam, where participants will move, groove, create and present their own short movement video by the end of the jam. Utilizing Sosa’s deep knowledge of street dance, participants will explore movement through the camera while experimenting with concepts, freestyle, and grooving foundations.

Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen - Intersection of Broadway & Kingsway, Vancouver, on the side of the Independent Building (168 BC-1A, Vancouver, BC V5T 3J2) and on screens around SFU Downtown, Burnaby and Surrey Campuses

Screens of all shapes and sizes have become a part of our daily lives — encounters with a screen have become inevitable. Our Public Screens program is one of the newest additions to the festival, urging you to look up and beyond the screens at your fingertips, observe your surroundings, and engage with movement-on-screen as you move through your day.

In partnership with Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen (Grunt Gallery) and SFU, we invite you to find, pass-by, witness and enjoy a selection of vibrant films throughout the festival week. Stay for a minute, for half an hour or come back the next day.
If you see these screens, we invite you to snap a pic, or take a video and tag @formvancouver with #FORMvancouver2022
